There’s no need for curtains in this house, and you won’t want them since the views from each window are spectacular.  The house sits on 5 acres and was hand built by my client Anthony (the seller).  If you hike around, you’d stumble across several creeks and waterfalls, along with a cobb house foundation just begging to be finished into something amazing.  It’s inspiring, to say the least, to work with someone who has the knowledge and ability to craft a home of this size and it’s exhilarating to help him move on to his next step. He was ready to ‘pass the torch’ and start a new chapter.  Perhaps he’ll build another home somewhere in rural Oregon or perhaps he’ll elect a more urban setting for a time.  I think I enjoy helping people figure out their next move that best suits their situation almost as much as the actual real estate pursuit.

I like participating in the creation of what the future will unfold, but it is a big responsibility, and I’ve got to say that my first and foremost concern is that my clients will have the best experience and outcome possible.   McMinnville is a long way away from North Portland, and I had a moment of hesitation when I was asked by Anthony to list his property.  It’s always flattering to know that your FRIENDS are that supportive of your business practice, but it’s also a whole lot of pressure in some ways too.  Anthony  vehemently believed I was the one for the job, and I trusted his enthusiasm so off I went to meet him at his home to discuss the selling process.  I’ve made the drive several times before, and always find the time in the car to be very relaxing.  I tend to keep the radio off and once I’m out of the city I roll down ALL the windows, look around, smell the fresh air and unwind a bit from my normal grind.  On this occasion, I’m driving up the familiar dirt road and I encounter a visitor.  One thing you must know about me is that I love ALL animals, and this little guy, made my day.  Talk about a jolt into another reality!  This “job” I have never fails to amaze me!

The rest is history.  We listed, got 2 offers in 3 days, and successfully closed the deal.  I’ve come to realize more and more that this business is really about our connections to people and our desire to help goes a LONG way.  The journey is always different, the location is always different and the lives impacted are always the priority.   I know I will  have a long career in this industry because there is a true joy in helping people reach their dreams, and to be part of that experience is a beautiful thing.
